Why walk, when you can drive?

In the past 100 years, the basic design of mainstream automobiles hardly changed. In the next ten, the whole concept of personal transportation will be turned inside out. Ironically, much of the "advancement" will be to utilize the ideas of the early pioneers that were discarded by the public or regarded as impractical by the establishment. Military and space technology have now made those "bad ideas" an inevitable reality.
